Vinyl Destination DJ Mix

LISTEN or DOWNLOAD: Tomas Jirku – Vinyl Destination DJ Mix

Extrapolating from my sets at last year’s Snowdown and Tall Tree events, this mix pulls together favourites from my plastic disc collection.

With selections from Caro, Metro Area, Thomas Brinkmann, Michael Mayer, Dexter, The Mole, Osborne, 3 Chairs, Akufen, Mat Jonson, Neil Young (you heard that right), and so many more to fill this 2 hour mix.

Just house, techno, and electro. None of that other, fancy, new stuff.

TKG007: Various Artists – Panambient Dim Sum

For those of us at The Konspiracy Group, ‘Global atmospheres for new millennia’ is a excellent definition of what the Pan Ambient event series represents.

Ambient, electro acoustic, experimental, call it what you will. A rising creative consciousness is inspiring musicians and artists from all over the world to engage in creative collaboration and we are proud of our panambienteers for forging the path. We love this music, because it gives a home to the unclassifiable and the sounds and textures of this universal fabric.

With this second release in our series of compilations showcasing Pan Ambient events, we return to Vancouver and focus on the participants of the Pan Ambient Dim Sum who ask the simple question, what would Wong Kar Wai do?

Everything in this collection was either recorded live or is based off of music performed live at the Pan Ambient Dim Sum, held August 7th, 2011 at Blim in Vancouver.

Hong Kong Soap Opera is the side project of Adrian Yee, guitarist in Vancouver math rockers, The Barcelona Chair. “So Long, Sibelius” is his refraction of looped bass and orchestral deliriousness through a kaleidoscope once owned by John Cage as a small child.

Fieldhead is P.Elam. He produces ambient/electronic music that delights in tape hiss, geography, bleak landscapes and decaying analogue loops. “All Boxes” and “Introductions (Blim Remix)” invoke the glorious peaks of Cascadia and Manchester via shimmering tones, a mysterious guitar and fractured synth pulses.

Gunshae is the Pan Ambient project of Kuma and Lady Eve, joined here as a quartet by Shawn Earle and Pari Kishi. “Tony, Maggie and Faye” is the soundtrack to what Wong Kar Wai dreams about at night, a drifting woodwind fantasia pinned down by a nagging bass riff, opiated vocals and an enveloping drone.

Tomas Jirku has been creating innovative techno since the late nineties and also enjoys fishing. “One Thousand and One Nights” takes it down a notch with a low-slung ambient dub excursion that invokes Muslimgauze as much as it does Basic Channel.

Lady Eve is the founder and curator of the Pan Ambient series. “Lotus Land” is her Cascadian anthem, a lush ambient piece reminiscent of cloud-watching on a summer’s day, lulled wax poetic while eating poppadums.

Deeply Rooted Mix 007: Tomas Jirku

Via: http://www.thedeepnorth.ca

The seventh exclusive mix in our Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series comes from Canadian Tomas Jirku, out of British Colombia, Canada.  When Tomas – - who was Featured back in May by Max The Fax – - is not busy fishing for lunkers in the lakes of the Deep North, the Canadian producer is busy in the lab putting together some really Innovative Techno music, which has been his trademark sound since he first appeared on net-label NoType in 1999.

Born in the Czech Republic, Jirku fled Eastern Europe with his family while it was still under Communist control, growing up in Canada while studying fine art and design, bombing walls and listening to electronic music – - which today he creates, and creates damn well.  In fact, the tunes he makes are so well respected that the man was invited to play in this years Mutek Festival in Montreal – - check out his set at this years Mutek festival Here, on his Soundcloud.

We are super excited to share Jirku’s wicked Deep North exclusive with you, the avid readers of our blog.  We also welcome Tomas’ fans, who may be visiting the site for the first time.  Thank you for supporting great music and motivating us to continually seek out generous artists like Tomas who are willing to put together something extra special for people who like great electronic music.  Enough talking, lets unleash Tomas’ version of deep.

Tomas Jirku “Psilence” EP

Fresh from http://basicsounds.ca/!

Vancouver based producer Tomas Jirku has been creating innovative techno since the late nineties and first appeared on the NoType net-label in 1999. In 2000, he became the first Canadian signed to the seminal Force Inc Music Works label, and then its sub-label’s formative Clicks & Cuts compilation series, which didn’t just define a genre, but carved a niche for emerging producers. Jirku has continued a prolific music career appearing on such labels as Traum, Klang, Onitor, Alien8, Substractif, Revolver, Intr_version and more.

His latest release – Psilence – collects fragments of his various stylistic approaches and influences, and funnels them closer to the Detroit vibe he’s been secretly striving for all this time. The title track is an abstract house number with reverberating beats and warm dub-flecked pads that slowly evolve into a quirky techno track. Star Control goes sci-fi with classic synth sounds in the format of shifting electro-techno groover. Layers of floating atmospheric chords underlie a bounce that is bound to move you on the dance floor. Star Control’s dub version explores the dark matter hidden within the original, and fittingly incorporates samples from John Carpenter’s sci-fi classic ‘Dark Star’. Finally, for the DJ that doesn’t want to confuse his audience with disembodied voices, Star Control’s instrumental version excludes the movie samples for a stripped-down minimal, funky journey. If you think these Memorex recordings are good, you can hear Tomas Jirku perform them live at this year’s Mutek Festival in Montréal!

Tomas Jirku’s “I Am A Wild Party” digital album

Tomas Jirku is a real favourite of Nice & Nasty and after acclaimed remixes for Celtec Twinz, Teknik and Mick Chillage, among others, it is our privilege to release Jirku’s mini album ‘I Am a Wild Party’.

Tomas Jirku has been at the forefront of Minimal Techno and Experimental Techno since the late 1990s. Jirku released his first music on pioneering net labels No Type and Alien8 and subsequently recording for the seminal Force Inc, Onitor, Revolver and others, Jirku has been one of Canada’s primary exponents of future techno.

Alongside Richie Hawtin, Jeff Milligan, Akufen, Adam Marshall, Gerald Belanger, Heike Silaste and Andrew Duke, Jirku has stamped the Maple Leaf on techno the world over. Jirku embodies the true creative whether it be in art, design, photography and music and much like himself his album ‘I am a Wild Party’ is a unique and novel adventure into sound, DJing and techno.

Jirku has assembled 6 trax that in many ways could be argued to be three trax in each, at least, as each tune mutates and juztaposes from sound and style to the next like a perfect DJ set, in our humble opinion. This release will be accompanied by a Mega Mix of all six trax and all remixes Tomas has done for Nice & Nasty as a Free Podcast. Enough reading, have a listen and hear for yourself. Enjoy!

Exclusive tracks via Plasmodium Radio 73: Tomas Jirku

http://www.plasmodium.net/podcast/plasmodium-radio-73-tomas-jirku/

This recording, exclusive to Plasmodium, pushes my “Illectrodub” album material – originally suited for headphones – closer to the realm of the dancefloor. Also remixed are early demo tracks from Rob Warren (with whom I record as “St. Helens”). The mix then winds down through a few tunes from which inspiration has been drawn, albeit not overtly.
