Tomas Jirku is a real favourite of Nice & Nasty and after acclaimed remixes for Celtec Twinz, Teknik and Mick Chillage, among others, it is our privilege to release Jirku’s mini album ‘I Am a Wild Party’.
Tomas Jirku has been at the forefront of Minimal Techno and Experimental Techno since the late 1990s. Jirku released his first music on pioneering net labels No Type and Alien8 and subsequently recording for the seminal Force Inc, Onitor, Revolver and others, Jirku has been one of Canada’s primary exponents of future techno.
Alongside Richie Hawtin, Jeff Milligan, Akufen, Adam Marshall, Gerald Belanger, Heike Silaste and Andrew Duke, Jirku has stamped the Maple Leaf on techno the world over. Jirku embodies the true creative whether it be in art, design, photography and music and much like himself his album ‘I am a Wild Party’ is a unique and novel adventure into sound, DJing and techno.
Jirku has assembled 6 trax that in many ways could be argued to be three trax in each, at least, as each tune mutates and juztaposes from sound and style to the next like a perfect DJ set, in our humble opinion. This release will be accompanied by a Mega Mix of all six trax and all remixes Tomas has done for Nice & Nasty as a Free Podcast. Enough reading, have a listen and hear for yourself. Enjoy!
Canadian DJ and Producer, Tomas Jirku, releases the album ‘I Am a Wild Party’ on Nice & Nasty and to coincide with this Tomas, like Katsuhiko before him has comiled a DJ mix of the new album trax and all his remixes for Nice & Nasty.
Nice & Nasty’s Wild Party features original music from Tomas and remxies for Mick Chillage, Marco Bernardi, Celtec Twinz, Teknik and more. The album of original music goes on sale Monday 28th March via all discerning online stores, such as beatport.com, iTunes.com, whatpeopleplay.com and many more.

This recording, exclusive to Plasmodium, pushes my “Illectrodub” album material – originally suited for headphones – closer to the realm of the dancefloor. Also remixed are early demo tracks from Rob Warren (with whom I record as “St. Helens”). The mix then winds down through a few tunes from which inspiration has been drawn, albeit not overtly.
…was the first album from Rivers of Recordings, compiling demo tracks from the main players (Rob Warren, Intellijel, Soundwarp and myself). Originally only available as a limited edition CD with hand-made packaging, now’s your chance to grab it while I’m feeling generous.
…was a mix originally performed for the 2008 Mid-Forms (New Forms) Festival and then re-recorded for the Art of Beatz podcast, this mix combines some tracks that were released on Rivers of Recordings and others that haven’t yet been so lucky.
Only 4 minutes into the 2nd side of their 1st Beat Tape, you recognize it from the first sound of that siren. You might call it ‘the hype section of Soupmask‘ (as Kuma‘s remix reminds you), but St. Helens call it ‘Ground Effects‘. Souns tightens it up ’til it almost pops, and Jirku throws it through a wall of synths. Might have been a stretch to call it dub-step back when the original mix was made, but these days that label is sounding more flexible.
My parents have been a big musical influence on me, so it’s fortunate for me that they have good taste! To mark my dad’s 59th birthday I’ve remixed some of his favorites — the raspy anti-crooner Tom Waits, and the always poignant and politically accurate The The — taking both into robo-funk territory. Their already heavy rhythms get a layer of techno and rolling electro, and some synths provide a veneer to the wall of sound. The result is a sound only a father could love.
This collection was remastered and assembled as a limited promo CDr a while back, but it seems senseless to me now to keep it limited. Various remixes a few of which still haven’t been released, but they come together into a pretty mean album, so enjoy:
